We have an accountant—why do we need PMI?

We are not trying to replace your accountant. Your accountant can better spend his time in tax planning and trying to reduce your tax bill. Your accountant is not going to carry Workers Compensation Insurance and offer you Employee benefits. Your accountant is not going to sign payroll checks and make your tax deposits. In this world of specialization, you need both an accountant and a Professional Employer Organization.

We have a payroll service—why do we need PMI?

A payroll service is part of the answer, but using PMI is the total solution to your administration needs. Not only do we provide payroll services, but we also cover employees with Workers' Compensation Insurance benefits, handle Workers' Compensation claims, provide Human Resources services, offer several Employee Benefit plans and do the administration as well. Quite a bit more than a payroll service.

We have a clerk that prepares the payroll—why do we need PMI?

Payroll tax laws change all the time. We at PMI stay current on payroll tax laws, as well as the entire Human Resources regulatory field. We never stay out sick. You never again will pay a late filing penalty or get into trouble with the IRS for overdue payroll taxes. PMI takes all these worries away.

We do everything ourselves—why do we need PMI?

Your time as an owner or manager is very valuable and as such should be best spent planning and developing strategies to expand your business and make it even more profitable. That is what managers do. Spending time administering benefits, payroll functions, and government relations is not contributing to the bottom line and is not what you went into business for in the first place.

How can we afford benefits? We don't have enough employees to qualify.

PMI does! Our benefits packages will provide a choice of options all at an affordable price—for one employee or 1000.

How many employees do I need to join your service?

One. Professional Employer Organizations are designed specifically for small and medium sized businesses, from one to one thousand.

I don't have any employees. All my people are independent contractors.

Be very careful. This is a very dangerous course of action for a business owner. If you direct these people, tell them where or when or how to work, or if you provide them with a place to work, most likely the IRS is going to consider them Employees and back taxes could put you out of business.

What happens if an employee is injured? What are my responsibilities?

You or your manager call PMI and report the injury. PMI has a safety and claims program that takes over and controls the event until the employee is back to work. You have no paperwork or claims to file; PMI does it all.

This sounds too good to be true. Is it legal?

Yes! The Internal Revenue Service has made it quite clear that the person who is in "control of the payment of such wages"…(Southwest Restaurant Systems V.IRS.607F. 2nd 1239.1979) is the one responsible for paying employment taxes. There are even some states now requiring a license to operate within a state. There is also a national organization of PEO's that monitor the industry. It is possible that the PEO industry will, in the future, be regulated in similar ways as are the insurance and banking industries.

What are the benefits of PMI to my employees?

BIG Company benefits including vision and dental at very competitive prices. Employees also benefit from our IRS 125 cafeteria plan which allows Employees to pay certain costs with pre-tax dollars allowing significant tax savings. Employees will also enjoy fast and effective claims processing.

Who should consider using PMI services?

Any business owner who is looking for ways to provide excellent employee benefits, increase profits, and streamline operations.

Do I have a contract to sign?

Yes. There is a contract to sign outlining our responsibilities. There is no specific time limit.

What happens if there is a mistake on an Employee paycheck?

PMI will fix it immediately, regardless of who made the mistake originally. It is very important for us to satisfy you as a client.
